What Is TRIR?

Definition and formula for Total Recordable Incident Rate.

TRIR (Total Recordable Incident Rate) estimates how many OSHA-recordable injuries and illnesses occur per 100 full-time workers per year. OSHA's common formula is:

TRIR = (Number of recordable cases × 200,000) ÷ Total hours worked

The 200,000 figure represents 100 employees working 40 hours/week for 50 weeks. Small businesses still use TRIR to compare periods and sites—even when absolute case counts are low. Rivkor can compute TRIR from your incident and hours data so you are not maintaining a parallel spreadsheet.
